Campaign starts in the region of Turmish, in the Sea of Fallen Stars of the Forgotten Realms. A large portion of the 1.7 million inhabitants of Turmish reside in the capital city of Alaghon or the trade city of Gildenglade. It is the latter where our story begins.
Gildenglade - settlement in the forest area at the foot of the Aphrunn Mountains in Turmish. This city is the second-largest within Turmish, composed of dwarves, elves, and half-elves living together in harmony. Its economy was based primarily upon woodcutting and mining.[1]
Roscommon - In the northern outskirts of Gildenglade lies the community of Roscommon. Though the area is far outside the protective walls of Gildenglade city proper, the relative peacefullness of Turmish has allowed the outer areas to thrive as the city has grown. Roscommon in particular has been reasonably affluent, with the major families of Thurdan and Dain running successful mining and construction respectively.
Business/Administration in Roscommon - Napraeleon Thurdan, old even by Elven standards of age, is somewhat of a folk legend in Gildenglade. During a troublesome time, hundreds of years ago, when the elves and dwarves coexisted but only begrudgingly, Napraeleon bartered peace by purchasing several mines in Aphrunn above cost and then hiring only the destitute dwarven residents outside the wall to work them. He paid a good wage and provided for the various communities outside the wall. It was Napraeleon's work within those communities that made peaceful coexistence possible outside the wall, and much of the city's inclusiveness can be traced back at least in part to Napraeleon Thurdan.
Due to his age, much of the day to day operations of the Thurdan Mining Alliance, TMA, is handled by Thurdan's great grand daughter, Namiirytha. Boss Nami, as the dwarves call her, bears the signature grace and beauty of her race but also a stern, calloused air of someone who has swung a pickaxe in her days. She is almost universally respected amongst the dwarven population though some of her own kind consider her 'dirty' and 'low' due to how she handles the business.
The Dains take a much less active role in the day to day operations of Roscommon, preferring to focus on their own construction business which often takes them outside of Roscommon and indeed outside of Gildenglade entirely. Rohi Dain, son of Hgerg, son of Gibto, spends roughly 20 hours of each day on work. He takes a very active role in the design aspect of his business, but also enjoys swinging a hammer and immersing himself in the work. Rockhammer construction is known throughout Turmish despite having no clear base of operations. Gibto Dain helped broker the peace with Napraeleon Thurdan, and his progeny have continued to work hand in hand with the elves.
Nhagh and Rorki Dain operate the storehouses that dot Gildenglade. Their sister, Iedi, does the purchasing whenever they need to open another or use a lot for the same. Kdos and Tyonr both protect their father and serve as council members for Rockhammer. Tonho, Siraf, and Gnehb are the only other notable Dains out of Rohi's 30 children. These three opened a mercenary outfit called Thredain to protect shipments going to and from Gildenglade.
Religion in Roscommon - Due to the Dwarven and Elven influences, most of the residents of Roscommon follow Moradin or Corellon Larethian. This is one of the very few areas where elves can be seen openly worshiping a dwarven deity, and dwarves respecting their elven compatriots gods as well. There is also a presence of the Halfling god Yondalla as well as a newly built temple to Helm. The human population of Gildenglade mostly follow Helm and Torm, but no temple was built until only recently.
The Temple of Helm in Roscommon was built not by a cleric, but by a local Paladin named Eris the Kind. Eris is a sort of folk hero, a local boy done good, as he grew up in a nearby village called Small Town which boasts less than 30 inhabitants. Eris freely aids anyone who asks of him, rarely accepts pay for his work, and regularly preaches brotherhood amongst all races and populations.
